A special parliamentary sub-commission will monitor the way in which the authorities implement the decisions of the Europeans Court of Human Rights (ECHR) by which the Republic of Moldova was convicted. It will also put forward legislative amendments for removing the systemic problems identified by the ECHR, IPN reports.
In a meeting of the commission on human rights, Liberal-Democratic Deputy Speaker of Parliament Liliana Palihovici, who is one of the authors of the given legislative initiative, said many of the ECHR decisions regarding Moldova are overdue. Thus, the Court recommended the authorities to set up a commission that will monitor the implementation of its decisions. “Over the last four years, we had many legislative amendments whose informative notes said the changes are proposed based on the ECHR’s recommendations,” said the lawmaker.
The draft decision provides that the sub-commission will form part of the legal commission on appointments and immunities, but the commission on human rights and interethnic relations proposed that the new body should form part of it. The final decision is to be taken by Parliament.
