Initiative for NGO heads to declare their income and interests

Independent MPs affiliated to Ilan Shor have come up with a draft law proposing that the founders and leaders of nongovernmental organizations should also be obliged to submit property and interests statements, IPN reports.

“Today you can see many persons from the NGO sector holding different positions in the government, in different public institutions, including the judicial system. There are public organizations that hold licenses in the media sector and come with different positions or try to do journalism. I will not give labels. These organizations receive various funding, including funding from abroad. We often do not know who these backers are and who “calls the tune”, who executes this order,” MP Vasile Bolea said in a press briefing.

According to him, as these organizations are linked to the political sphere, come up with expertise, proposals and draft laws, society must know who orders and who executes.

In his opinion, as it was recently proposed and accepted that the leaders of political parties should submit property and interests statements, the founders and leaders of public associations should also be obliged to do this.
