The PLDM put forward Iurie Leanca for the post of Prime Minister, announced the party’s chairman Vlad Filat, who gave a news conference jointly with Leanca. Vlad Filat said that the position of Premier is very responsible in a period that is not at all easy for Moldova, IPN reports.
The Liberal-Democratic leader said that the party’s Political Bureau designated Iurie Leanca based on the commitment that Moldova will have a European government. “The new Government must cope with very serious challenges and ensure efficient governance based on clear principles,” said Vlad Filat.
According to the former Premier, the negotiations for forming a new Government will be launched immediately after President Nicolae Timofti signs the decree nominating the Premier. Talks will be held only with the Democratic faction, the parliamentary groups and the Liberals headed by Ion Hadarca.
The leader of the PLDM also said that the negotiations will be transparent. The agreement on the constitution of a parliamentary majority will be made public. “We will not accept the Premier to be prevented from doing his duty. Moldova needs a democratic, European government,” said Vlad Filat, adding that Liliana Palihovici, Valeriu Strelet and Vadim Pistrinciuc were delegated to act as negotiators on behalf of the PLDM.
Iurie Leanca said that the post of Prime Minister is a great responsibility. “It’s an honor, but also a great responsibility given the period through which we go and the goal in front of us,” he stated.
The candidate will be presented to the head of state. After Nicolae Timofti issues the decree, the candidate will have two weeks to convince the MPs to give him a vote of confidence.
Iurie Leanca has held the premiership on an interim basis since April 25.
