Justice Ministry extends list of judiciary disciplinary deviations

The Ministry of Justice extended the list of judicial disciplinary deviations that will be stipulated in a bill concerning the disciplinary punishment of judges. Thus, the disciplinary deviations will include the non-declaring of incomes and property, the promotion of personal interests and of the interests of family members or relatives, and the use of the position of judge for obtaining improper benefits, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Ministry’s press service. The breaking by the judge of the terms for fulfilling the procedural rules, for editing court decisions and for transmitting copies of them to trial participants or the abusive interventions with the authorities, institutions or functionaries in order to deal with certain situations will be also considered deviations. At the beginning of the public debates on the aforementioned bill, Deputy Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu said the anticorruption initiatives of the Ministry of Justice will not produce the expected results if they are not supported by the judiciary from inside the system, through an efficient disciplinary punishment mechanism that would prevent or remove any behavior that can eventually turn into criminal. The bill concerning the disciplinary punishment of judges was finished at the end of November. It was drafted by a working group that consisted of Ministry of Justice employees, judges, members of the Disciplinary Board, and representatives of civil society.
