Supporting the European course of Moldova will be the most important European objective of Romania, Romanian President-elect Klaus Iohannis said while on a visit to Chisinau, paid at the invitation of the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat, IPN reports.
Klaus Iohannis said this is his first visit abroad after his election as President of Romania and is made in the context of the November 30 parliamentary elections as he wanted to express his support for strengthening the democratic values in Moldova.
“I highlight the special character of the relations between Moldova and Romania. We have common language, history and traditions. Romania has an incontestable debt to Moldova – to help build a common democratic area. I assure you that Romania will promote Moldova’s interests in the EU. Moldova’s entry into the EU is the national project of Romania and I want this to happen during my presidency,” stated Klaus Iohannis.
He voiced hope that the Moldovan people on November 30 will vote for a European future. “I call on the Romanian citizens from Moldova on November 30 to offer a chance to Moldova to build a European future, as Romania was offered such a chance. I promise you that Romania will protect the territorial integrity and economic interests of Moldova,” stated Klaus Iohannis.
Vlad Filat said that Klaus Iohannis’s visit is historical as it is made several days before the Moldovan citizens will decide the country’s fate. “These elections are the most important ones since the proclamation of our independence. The internal provocations and especially the external ones make us be united. I’m sure that President Iohannis will make everything possible for Romania and Moldova to join together in the large European family,” he stated.
The politician expressed his confidence that Moldova will be able to build a European future and thanked Romania for the provided support. He assured that by work and responsibility, Moldova will become a functional state where all the rights of the people are guaranteed.
