The Parliament of Moldova passed a statement by which it expresses is profound concern about the situation in the Crimean Peninsula and the decisions of a military character adopted by the Russian authorities. The Communist MPs didn’t vote and the left assembly hall in protest, IPN reports.

The statement says that the Parliament of Moldova makes common cause with the Parliament of Ukraine in its effort to ensure the stability and European future of the neighboring state, which is a partners and friend of Moldova. “We ascertain that the major risk of the events in Ukraine, especially of the developments in Crimea, resides in the weakening of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, which can have serious consequences for the whole region,” said Deputy Speaker Andrian Candu.

The Moldovan legislative body undermined the importance of respecting the principles of international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The MPs calls on the UN, the OSCE, the EU and the CIS to apply all the instruments of international law and mediation mechanisms so as to prevent the escalation of the conflict and to ensure peace and stability in Ukraine and in the whole region.

Lawmaker Mihai Godea said the statement was sterile and proposed that the actions of Russia should be condemned, but his proposal was rejected.

Russia dispatched military forces to Crimea and announced it will resort to military action if the lives of the Russians from that territory are put in danger.
