Lib-Dems suggest notaries should not be allowed to set their fees
A group of Liberal-Democratic MPs have proposed a measure forbidding notaries to set the fees for their services at their own will. At the same time, Tatiana Ungureanu, the president of the Notaries Union, says the measure will have an ill effect on the notaries' work.
The Lib-Dem MPs argued it is necessary to level off the notaries fees in order to prevent abuses in the form of exaggerated charges.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Tatiana Ungureanu said the measure will have a negative effect on the notaries' work, as it will make them unable to pay the costs of their offices. Tatiana Ungureanu says that today fees are formed in accordance with a methodology adopted by Parliament, but there are also situations when notaries provide services which are not expressly regulated by the legislation; hence, the notaries have to set their own fees.
