The Liberal Party nominated the party’s deputy chairman Valeriu Munteanu as the Liberals’ candidate who will run in the May 20 new local mayoral elections in the municipality of Chisinau, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Liberal Party said its Political Bureau examined six proposed candidates. By a majority of votes, Valeriu Munteanu was designated the Liberal Party’s candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality.

New elections will be held in Chisinau on May 20 after the Liberal mayor Dorin Chirtoaca tendered his resignation a month ago. So far, only the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” announced its candidate for mayoralty in Chisinau. This is the party’s chairman Andrei Nastase. The Democratic Party said it will not have its own candidate in the local elections, but is ready to support of common candidate of the parties of the right or of the pro-European party. Other parties intend to present their candidates in the nearest future.
