Liberal-Democratic MP Veaceslav Ionita intends to sue the Liberal Party for slander and false statements. The lawmaker said the Liberal MPs lied when they told the journalists that Parliament illegally doubled the VAT exemption for a construction company that executed restoration works at the Kurki Monastery. According to the Liberal-Democrat, the sum of 25 million lei included in the budgetary-fiscal policy for this year represents the state debt to this company, IPN reports.
“I will sue them to show that politics should not be based on lies. The liars should disappear. I demand that they should go and apologize to the abbot of the monastery, to my wife and my parents,” said Veaceslav Ionita.
He added that the amounts allocated by the state for repairing the monastery were insufficient and the company performed the works on credit. Thus, in order to avoid litigation, it was decided to pay the debt by exempting the company from VAT.
Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu replied that for the debt to total 25 million lei, the works performed by the company were to amount to several hundred million lei. But the works came to 92 million lei.
On January 18, the Liberal Party announced that it will inform the Prosecutor General’s Office about illegalities related to the budgetary-fiscal policy. According to the Liberals, a private company was illegally exempted from paying VAT of 12 million lei initially. Afterward the sum was raised to 25 million lei.
