Liberal reformers challenge concession of airport in CC

The Liberal reforming MPs headed by Ion Hadarca asked verifying the constitutionality of the May 29 Government decision concerning the holding of the contest to concede the Chisinau International Airport, IPN reports.

In a news conference at IPN, the lawmakers said the decision to hold the contest was taken on May 29, after the Government was dismissed, while the Constitutional Court (CC) ruled that it had limited powers. Ion Hadarca underlined that the application filed to the CC does not mean that the coalition government, of which the Liberal reformers form part, faces a conflict. According to Hadarca, he and his colleagues form part of the coalition, but continue to safeguard the people’s interests and undertake to make sure that the law and the agreement on the constitution of the Pro-European Coalition are obeyed.

Ana Gutu, Liberal MP of the group of reformers, considers that when the decision to hold a contest to lease out the Chisinau International Airport was taken, the principle of transparency was violated. The Ministry of Economy is requested to nullify the results of the contest and to announce a new one.

The MP underlined that the Liberal reformers sacrificed many things in order to keep the current government, but when the agreement on the formation of the coalition was signed, they pleaded for the implementation of reforms for the people’s benefit. According to Ana Gutu, the people want lower prices of plane tickets and services of a high quality, while the contract for managing the Chisinau airport does not guarantee this.

MP Oleg Bodrug said the Liberal reformers are dissatisfied with the fact that the contest was a closed one. His colleague Vadim Cojocaru referred also to another Government decision that caused controversy in society – the loss of the majority shareholding in Banca de Economii. He stated that the Liberal reformers will ask for arguments from representatives of the Government and the bank’s administration so as to see if the rules and the law were not broken. If it turns out that they were broken, the Liberal reformers will dispute the given decision in court.
