Liberals criticize adoption of prosecution service law

The Liberal and Socialist MP leveled harsh criticism against the MPs who voted for the bill on the prosecution service, saying this vote represents mockery at the people, the reformation of the prosecution service and at the development partners that insist on authentic reforms, IPN reports.

The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu insisted that a bill to amend the Constitution was to be debated first. “Howe to adopt a law that runs counter to the Constitution? This is the reason why we didn’t vote for this bill. It is mockery and deceit. The Constitution should have been amended first,” he told the journalists, saying the development partners were thus deceived.

The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said it is only an attempt to pretend to be reforming the prosecution service. He accused his colleagues of intending to use the prosecution service as a cudgel against the political opponents and the people.

On May 29, the draft law on the prosecution service was adopted in the first reading by the votes of 37 MPs of the 67 attending. The bill was voted by the Lib-Dems and Democrats. The Socialist and Liberal MPs refused to vote. Most of the Communist lawmakers were absent. Though the law will take effect on January 1, 2016, the provisions concerning the appointment of the prosecutor general will start to be applied when the Constitution is amended.
