The Liberal Party is launching an information campaign centering on the accomplishments of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. By this, the Liberals aim to support the mayor and to persuade the people not to sign for the referendum on the dismissal of Chirtoaca initiated by the Socialists, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the campaign in support of the mayor will cover all the districts of Chisinau and the suburbs. It is not for the first time that the Socialists initiated the collection of signatures for the removal of the mayor, but failed so far.

The Liberals challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice the Appeals Court’s decision to organize the referendum on the dismissal of Chirtoaca. If their request is rejected, they undertake to be near the citizens that supported Dorin Chirtoaca.

The Socialists last week started to collect signatures in favor of the referendum. The initiative group is to gather 63,000 signatures during 60 days. According to the Party of Socialists, the referendum could be held in November at the latest.
