Liberals seek explanations over case of Baghirov
Liberal lawmaker Valeriu Saharneanu, in the October 20 sitting of the legislature, demanded that the Ministry of the Interior, the Security and Information Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Customs Service and the Border Guard Service should provide explanations as to how the Russian blogger Eduard Baghirov managed to cross the state border, Info-Prim Neo reports.
During a break in the Parliament’s sitting, the chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said that Baghirov was transferred under house arrest intentionally so that he could leave Moldova. He did not exclude that the escape by the Russian blogger may be related to Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s visit to Moscow as the PLDM repeatedly demanded that he be set free.
Eduard Baghirov was arrested this June, being accused of involvement in the organization of the public disorder of April 2009. About a week ago, he was released from the remand center and put under house arrest. On October 19, the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that the blogger escaped and was announced wanted. For his part, Baghirov told the Russian newspaper Gazeta.ru that he got to Russia and experienced no problems when crossing the border. “Even if I had crossed the border with music, cigarettes and drugs, I think the border guards wouldn’t have had questions. Governance there is of the worst quality,” said the Russian blogger.
