The mayors and local councilors should enjoy particular immunity in their work so that criminal cases are not started against them and they are not dismissed. Such an opinion was stated in the talk show “Black box” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Liberal MP Stefan Vlas said that for pressure not to exist in the form of criminal cases against mayors who honestly do their job, justice should function and should not be biased. “There should be a legal framework that would offer particular immunity to the mayors because they are elected by the people and cannot be sued all the time or have criminal cases started against them after any reasonable suspicion and be dismissed,” stated the MP. According to him, criminal cases are started not only as a result of inspections performed by competent bodies, but also on the instruction of particular persons, when ordinary people are told what to write in a complaint against a particular mayor.

Elena Gritsko, deputy head of the Political Party “Our Party”, said that as long as the control bodies are politicized and the politic factor influences decision-making at these institutions, there are no chances for a balance to exist between the criminal cases started against mayors reasonably and those that are fabricated.

Mayor of Cimislia town Gheorghe Raileanu considers there is symbiosis between politics and economy in particular cases. “My first four criminal cases were due to a business entity that bought over 1 hectare of land in the center of the town by falsifying documents. This company involved an MP and they together managed to invent the case,” stated the mayor. According to him, the state abuses its power in relation to the local elected officials. Too many inspections are carried out and the mayors refuse to hold office or defect from one party to another.
