Maia Sandu calls Government’s first meeting tomorrow

Maia Sandu is convening her Cabinet for its first meeting tomorrow, in the Parliament building at 11:00 a.m. She told a press conference that “dismissals and appointments” will be on the order of the day, declining to offer further details.

Further at the press conference, Maia Sandu criticized Police Chief Alexandru Pînzari’s for his remark that “Alexandru Jizdan is (his) minister”, calling it “defiance of the law”.

She also said that the Council of Europe and a number of foreign embassies in Chisinau have sent messages of encouragement for the democratic processes in Moldova.

Taking questions from reporters, Maia Sandu said key law enforcement posts like the heads of the National Anticorruption Center and the Security and Intelligence Service must be filled on a competition basis.

Sandu also says that the law allows her to be both prime minister and an MP for a month, after which elections will have to be held in the constituency that deputed her.
