Maia Sandu: Justice will be among the Government's priorities

Justice will be among the priorities of the new government headed by Prime Minister Maia Sandu will. The new chief executive says order must be made in judicial institutions, but that this must start from the most important ones, such as the Superior Council of Magistrates and the Supreme Court. The statements were made on ProTV Chisinau.

In her opinion, a cleansing of the Superior Council of Magistracy must take place "because SCM should be the body that ensures things are done well in court and judges who do their job well are promoted, but judges who take decisions such as that submitted by Berdilo (i.e. the judge who overturned Chisinau local elections) must be expelled from the system, not promoted, as it in fact happened. "

Order must be made at the Supreme Court as well, Maia Sandu declared. "We know that over time, stupefying decisions were taken by this Court. This will be our starting point, these institutions”, said the prime minister.

The Head of Government says she hopes that judges and prosecutors will be evaluated by foreign parties.  This assessment should determine whether or not people have integrity problems. "The National Authority for Integrity is a very important element in ensuring that that position holders have no integrity problems. There is a leadership blockage here because it did not have the independence to carry out the research and investigation of public officials, " said the politician.
