Marian Lupu: Dodon would have emerged victorious if PDM candidate had been withdrawn

The withdrawal of the PDM’s candidate from the electoral race for the mayoralty of Chisinau would have changed the percentage proportion so that the PCRM’s candidate may have won over 50% of the vote, the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu told a news conference on June 7, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Democratic Party and Valentina Buliga contributed to keeping the chance in the second round of voting, by maintaining the consistent campaign decisions and avoiding the panic that might have been caused by the polarization of votes,” said Marian Lupu. He also said that if Valentina Buliga had left the competition, the 2.56% of the vote polled by her wouldn’t have helped the PL’s candidate. If this percentage had gone to the PCRM’s candidate, Igor Dodon would have won the elections by one round. Marian Lupu said the PDM will support Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round of voting. “We work round the clock in continuation. We already ordered that the party’s staff continue promoting the principles we made public earlier. We will help our colleagues from the ruling alliance if they need support,” he stated. According to the election results announced by the central electoral authority, Valentina Buliga earned 2.56% of the ballot, Igor Dodon – 48.07%, while Dorin Chirtoaca – 46.51%.
