Mariana Durleșteanu leaves Party of Law and Justice

Mariana Durleșteanu resigned as president of the Party of Law and Justice. She noted that her decision to resign does not yet mean that she abandons politics, IPN reports.

“I thank all my party mates and assure them of my respect and sympathy. The reasons for such a decision are personal in character. The resignation from the post of president of the party does not yet mean I will abandon politics or will give up helping the Republic of Moldova as long as I can,” said Mariana Durleșteanu. “The Republic of Moldova needs a party able to offer a viable alternative and to transform it into a real country.”

The Party of Law and Justice competed in the July 11, 2021 elections with Mariana Durleșteanu topping the list of candidates. Earlier, Durleșteanu was proposed for premiership by the former parliamentary majority announced by the Party of Socialists and Șor Party, but withdrew her candidacy during President Maia Sandu’s consultations with the parliamentary groups. This enabled President Sandu to field Igor Grosu for the post of Prime Minister, but his appointment failed. In April 2021, the Constitutional Court ascertained the circumstances that justified the dissolution of Parliament.
