Rerun mayoral elections will take place in three settlements - Carpesti village of Cantemir district, Popeasca of Stefan Voda, and Kotovscoe of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – on July 17. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on July 12, Info-Prim Neo reports. The runoff vote will involve the two candidates who competed in the second round of voting and the electoral councils in a new composition. The CEC approved a special stamp “Local Elections 17.07.2011” for the new elections. The courts ruled that the electoral councils in the three settlements, which also fulfilled the duties of electoral offices of the polling places, should be replaced owing to the violations of the Election Code committed by them.
