Mercury discovered in abandoned house in Glodeni
A man found mercury in an abandoned house near his home in Glodeni. Dorina Cruc, press officer of the Service for Civil Protection and Exceptional Situations, told Info-Prim Neo that June 24, the man decided to clean up the place and throw away useless stuff. When he discovered 2 bowls with mercury, he immediately called the firemen.
The case is being investigated. Meanwhile, the District Center of Preventive Medicine examines the mercury. It is a chemical element which leads to water, soil and air pollution. In large amounts it is highly toxic and causes serious health problems.
Doctors say it is hard to overcome intoxication with mercury as the body slowly eliminates it through urine, dejections and milk.
