German Chancellor Angela Merkel laid a wreath of yellow chrysanthemums and red calla, with a German tricolor ribbon, at the monument of ruler Stefan cel Mare. The European official laid flowers while the German anthem was performed in the background by the Presidential Orchestra of Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Angela Merkel went to the monument of Stefan cel Mare immediately after her speech at the Palace of the Republic, without being attended by Moldovan officials. At the monument, she was met by pupils from lyceums who applauded when she arrived.
On the other side of the street, a crowd gathered to watch the ceremony. There some protesters who displayed placards with anti-government messages in Romanian: “Filat Government steals money from grants”, “Transnistria- Moldovan territory” and “Merkel – Putin August 23, 2012??? August 23 Ribbentrop – Molotov”.
After she laid the flowers, the European official went to the wine cellars in Cricova. This part of the visit wasn’t public. The German Chancellor’s plane will depart at 9 PM.
