The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the Diplomatic Council, an entity made up of remarkable figures of traditional diplomacy, as well as economic, cultural and academic diplomacy, among other forms. The new entity, which aims to support foreign policy and promote the national interest of Moldova, held today its inaugural meeting.

“At such an important historical moment for the European future of the Republic of Moldova, this Council is our response to the need to coalesce and capitalize on the experience of valuable personalities of our country for the development of innovative, but at the same time, sustainable approaches to the promotion of our country’s interest abroad. All the active citizens devoted to the cause of Moldova’s future are the true ambassadors of the country”, declared Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Diplomatic Council includes Nicolae Țîu, independent Moldova’s first foreign minister, among other figures. He spoke about the importance of economic diplomacy and emphasized the need to promote effective initiatives to promote exports and attract investors.

Another former minister of foreign affairs, Mihai Popov, spoke today about the importance of the constitutional referendum and emphasized the need for sustained efforts to achieve the most important national project of the past few decades: the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

The Diplomatic Council of the MFA is an honorary advisory body, which aims to strengthen relations between the Moldovan diplomatic service and professionals in the economic, cultural, academic, sports and other areas. It will examine the national, regional and international context, assessing the implications on the diplomatic position and strategic objectives of the Republic of Moldova. Another mission of the Council is to monitor public policy documents and suggest improvements. Also, the Diplomatic Council will cooperate with the academia and civil society, and will participate, on the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in working groups, commissions and other bodies discussing foreign affairs.
