A number of heads of the PL branches, members of the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party, told a news conference on June 5 that the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu continues to intimidate them, IPN reports.
The head of the Balti local organization Tatiana Potang said the members of the Council are continuously denigrated by the party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu.
MP Anatol Arhire, who was presented as the head of the Ungheni local organization, said that Mihai Ghimpu exerts pressure on the branches that are in favor of convening the Extraordinary Congress of the Liberal Party in order to choose a new administration. He also said that the leader of the PL uses docile persons to force the party members not to recognize the managers of the branches that support the Council for Reforming the PL, arguing that he excluded them from the party. A number of representatives of the PL from local organizations are lured by Mihai Ghimpu, who says that early elections will take place soon, while the reformers are the people of Moscow.
The deputy head of the PL’s branch in Ungheni Mihai Gorenco said that Mihai Ghimpu asked the members of the branch not to come to a meeting. He brought a number of students there and decided to change the organization’s administration with their votes. Ghimpu named a relative of his as head of the branch.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Stefan Chitoroaga, of the Liberal Party, said that those who support the Council for Reforming the PL are treated like in the times of Stalin. He stated that his son-in-law Adrian Boldurescu was constrained to tender his resignation from the post of head of the Chisinau Public Transport Division only because they are related.
The representatives of the PL also said that more than half of the party’s local organizations are for convening the Extraordinary Congress of the Liberal Party, where to vote in favor of holding the National Congress for reforming the party. To date, 11 heads of local organizations of the PL, who support the Council for Reforming the Liberal party, have been replaced.
