Mihai Ghimpu says Socialist MPs played their role
The leader of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu, in a program on PrimeTV, said the Party of Socialists has played its role and the members of the Communist Party (PCRM) will stop joining the Dodon group, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”I want to say that the people will not join them. The Communists will continue to have their supporters. But in the future they will joint the PL, then the PLDM and PDM. They will go over to parties that have a future,” said Mihai Ghimpu, adding that all the steps taken by the Socialists were aimed at asserting themselves.
”But now it’s over. We have 59 votes and they play no role anymore. I think the Communist Party staged protests in the central square of Chisinau not in order to incite the people against the alliance, but in order to strengthen their position after the defection of Dodon. They showed that Dodon for them is like a drop of water in an ocean.”
The chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said that the PCRM’s actions formed part of the Communists’ plans regarding the early elections. ”They thought we will not elect the head of state and they thus prepared for the election campaign,” he explained.
He also said that there was no agreement between the leaders of the ruling alliance and the lawmakers of the Dodon group, but those MPs pursued their own goals. “The Socialists’ task was to prove that they do not think like the Communists and that they have a European, modern view and to help overcome the political crisis,” said Marian Lupu.
After the President of Moldova was elected, the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon admitted that he may ask for an important state position after a law on the opposition is approved. Earlier, the press reported that the Socialists may be allowed to control the Central Election Commission and the Audit Office.
