The National Council of the Liberal Party (PL) on August 31 decided that the party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu will run in the October 30 presidential elections. At the beginning of the meeting, the party’s deputy head Valeriu Munteanu said Mihai Ghimpu was fielded as a candidate by the Standing Bureau of the Liberal Party, IPN reports.
Valeriu Munteanu noted that the PL’s decision to nominate a candidate for President was taken as a result of recent statements about the identity of the residents of the Republic of Moldova. “The election of the candidate is not an option, but a necessity for the PL to take part openly and intransigently to explain to each citizen of the Republic of Moldova that the union of Bessarabia and Romania is the natural option of the Bessarabians from between the Prut and Nistru Rivers,” he stated.
According to Valeriu Munteanu, this desideratum can be achieved by a unionist President who wants, believes and will be able to lead the people living between the Prut and Nistru to this desideratum. “Undoubtedly, this thing can be done best by the Liberal Party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu,” said the party’s deputy chairman.
Mihai Ghimpu said his desideratum as a candidate for President and the desideratum of the Liberal Party is to continue the fight for the reunification of the Romanian territory of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. “I surely want this post because I can do more than others. You will see that none of the candidates achieved results in the political sphere similar to mine results,” he stated.
The chairman of the PL considers that his opponents in the presidential race do not deserve this post because they pursue evil goals and promote group interests. They are interested not in the people’s life, but in the life of those who are behind them. “The people will decide, but it will be a pity if they vote again for a candidate that will use them. The Republic of Moldova hasn’t yet had a President of the right. All the Presidents represented the left,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
According to him, time has come for the people to offer the right four years of presidency and will then be able to make a comparison.
