The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu denies the fact that the Democratic Party (PDM) fully controls the state institutions and is convinced that the current government will bring about changes. The statements were made in the program “Fourth power” on N4 channel, IPN reports.

“It’s not true that the PDM, especially Plahotniuc, controls everything in this country. Nobody controls me or the Liberal ministers. It’s not so simple. The press writes in order to cause sensations. For me, Vlad Plahotniuc is the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party and an alliance colleague. That’s all,” stated Ghimpu.

He expressed his optimism about the chances of improving the situation in the country. “We will meet in autumn and will see. The Liberal Party will not be used to worsen the situation. If the situation does not improve, in autumn we will withdraw to the opposition. The Democratic Party will also withdraw from power and there will be early elections. It’s clear that the pensions won’t be 3,000 lei until autumn, but a large part of the promised reforms will be implemented,” said the Liberals’ leader.

Mihai Ghimpu said he would have voted for any candidate for Prime Minister, except for Ion Sturza owing to particular candidates that this proposed for minister. “He said he will come with a team of technocrats and we promised we will vote him. But Sturza included in the list of candidates persons who cry in the central square of Chisinau that Ghimpu is a traitor and so on. How could I vote then for such a Government?” he explained.

As to the latest misunderstandings with the ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu, Ghimpu said that Basescu’s interest in Moldova derives only from the wish to attract votes for the future elections.

Mihai Ghimpu accused the mass media of lack of correctness and called on the Broadcasting Coordinating Council to withdraw the license of Jurnal TV channel. “They do not choose the words there. This channel should have been closed long ago,” he stated.
