The president of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said that Mihai Godea's defection from the party and all the related statements he made represent a direct attack on the party's leader. After a meeting of the party's staff on May 4, Vlad Filat said the forces that are behind those actions will become known after the June 5 local elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“After the elections, the puppeteer that is behind a number of serious and dirty actions will be revealed. Until then, the public opinion should not be distorted as we are in the middle of the election campaign,” said Vlad Filat.
According to the leader of the PLDM, his party will continue to strengthen its position and will confirm its development platform. Vlad Filat stressed that the PLDM does not lack powerful and influential persons. Thousands of persons joined the party during the last few years and this shows that the PLDM is strong, he stated.
Asked by the journalists what goals Mihai Godea pursues, Vlad Filat said he does not know, but the statements that Godea made after leaving the party show that he uses invented themes in order to justify his acts. “A responsible politician does not throw words. I would like to see dignified men making effort to implement reforms, not only speaking about them. I consider that Mihai Godea's actions represent a blow to the Alliance for European Integration,” said the leader of the PLDM.
Vlad Filat denied Mihai Godea's assertion that the PLDM may come closer to the PCRM. He stressed that his party removed the Communists from power and possible cooperation with the PCRM is out of the question. Moreover, he considers that the members of the PCRM are the only ones who benefited from Mihai Godea's actions through gratis electoral publicity.
Mihai Godea Wednesday announced that he defected from the PLDM and intends to run independently for the mayoralty of Chisinau.
