Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca stressed it is hard to remedy a situation that is 15 years old in several days. However, the rules must be respected and the minibuses must stop only in special places. The City Hall is expecting a Government Decision or a decision by the Chisinau Municipal Council allowing transporting only ten passengers on foot.
Another minibus running system will be implemented gradually. The situation of the public transport will improve after the 100 new trolleybuses purchased by the Chisinau administration will be brought to the capital city.
According to the municipal police chief Silviu Musuc, no passenger could be conveyed on foot as this is against the traffic rules.
Police statistics show 62 road accidents involving minibuses happened in Chisinau in the first nine months of this year. One person was killed and about 90 were injured in them. Forty-four of these accidents were caused by minibus drivers. The traffic police fined over 2,000 drivers, 230 of whom for speeding.
