Ministers obliged to quit posts
The ministers, deputy ministers, mayors, deputy mayors, district heads and deputy district heads will have to leave their jobs for the period of the election campaign if they run as candidates in elections. On November 9, the Constitutional Court ruled that Article 13 of the Election Code is in accordance with the Constitution. One judge had a dissenting opinion, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The constitutionality of Article 13 was challenged by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and then, at the Constitutional Court’s request, by the Government. The Premier argued the Cabinet cannot take decisions owing to the absence of quorum as most of the members run as candidates in elections and are obliged to quit.
