MoI could resume internal investigation in Heroine Case
The Ministry of the Interior is expected to resume the internal investigation in connection with the so-called Heroine Case once an irreversible court decision is pronounced, Minister Victor Catan told a press conference today, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“There are some issues of statutory activity that oblige us to resume the internal investigation which was suspended in conformity with the laws”, said Minister Catan, hoping the true offenders would be established.
On June 21, the Chisinau Court of Appeals quashed Botanica District Court’s judgment of October 2009, which jailed policemen Corneliu Savca and Dumitru Moiseev and Turkish citizen Cernit Murat in the Heroine Case. Prosecutor Cornel Bratunov said he would challenge the Court’s decision after he got wise of its explanation.
The Heroin Case started following Moldova’s largest drug bust in April 2008, when 200 kilograms of heroine, hidden in bean sacks, were discovered in a Hyundai van. The vehicle, driven by a Turkish citizen, was held in the center of Chisinau. A number of Interior Minister employees were subsequently arrested in connection with the seizure.
