The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) recommended the public TV channel Moldova 1 to put on air a program in the Russian language during evening prime time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“As the broadcast hour of the Russian language news program was changed, we think the Russian speakers should be provided with a program in Russian during prime time. We do not say what kind of program this should be and who should produce it. This recommendation shouldn’t be regarded as interference in the work of the national public broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova,” said the Council’s chairman Marian Pocaznoi.
BCC member Corneliu Mihalache voted against the given recommendation, maintaining his request to penalize Teleradio-Moldova and discharge the Supervisory Board in connection with the replacement of the news program in Russian broadcast at 7pm with the news program in Romanian.
“This decision was taken in order to maintain the slightly decreasing audience. The rating of Moldova 1 went up, while the changes were a right step. Furthermore, we did not eliminate the news program in Russian. There are broadcast three shorter news bulletins in Russian at different hours. We can say we increased the volume of information for Russian viewers,” said the director of Moldova 1 Angela Sarbu.
Council member Valentina Vasilache said by taking such a decision Teleradio-Moldova made a present to the television channel NIT, whose evening news programs will attract more viewers now.
The changes in the broadcast schedule of Moldova 1 took effect on October 10. The news program in Romanian “Mesager” was transferred from 9pm to 7pm, instead of the “Mesager” in Russian.
