Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat and Georgian PM Vano Merabishvili have signed the Agreement on visa-free movement. The two officials met today, July 9, as part of Vlad Filat’s official visit to Georgia, reports Info-Prim Neo. According to a communiqué from the Government, the two States’ Premier also visited the free trade zone of Rustavi. Besides the Agreement, the two Governments also signed a memorandum of agreement in healthcare and medical sciences. During this visit, two other agreements are to be signed: one on international road traffic and the other on cooperation and reciprocal assistance in customs control. The Moldovan Premier praised Georgia’s reforms, mentioning that he is certain that they will keep registering great successes. Vlad Filat opted for a closer cooperation between Moldova and Georgia in order to exchange the best experiences and practices in reform promotion and advancement of the rule of law. Vano Merabishvili also mentioned the importance of establishing political dialogues on different levels, in order to assure the deepening of Moldovan-Georgian bilateral relations. The Premiers appreciated the potential the two countries have and convened on further use of this potential by implementing concrete projects in economics, energy, transports, and tourism. Additionally, they ordered for the prompt foundation of the Moldo-Georgian Commission on economic and commercial collaboration, and the organization of its first meeting in the near future. The meeting also discussed the importance of promoting inter-citizen contact, especially through cultural exchange, and collaboration in the fields of education, youth, and sports. In that context, the establishment of a direct Chisinau-Tbilisi flight was proposed. The last few years register an increase in bilateral trade. Since 2009 till 2011 it increased by 160%, and the positive trend continues this year as well. Moldova’s external commerce with Georgia, for the first four months of 2012, totaled at $6.28 million.
