The hosts dominated throughout the game and had numerous occasions. Denis Zmeu scored the first goal with a header on the 30th minute. The rest of the goals were all scored in the second half. Moldova ended the game in ten men after Igor Tigirlas was eliminated for foul and abusive language.
“We expected to win this match, knowing that we had to confront a weak team. However, I was a little bit afraid that the players would treat the game as a piece of cake. I'm glad that we finally scored a victory, considering that we didn’t have one for quite a long time”, stated Moldova manager Gabi Balint after the match.
With 9 points, Moldova finished on the next to the last place in Group E, which was won by the Netherlands with 27 points. Sweden also qualified for the EURO 2012.
