Moldova makes full use of Eastern Partnership opportunities, European commissioner
The Republic of Moldova goes in the right direction and makes full use of the opportunities offered by the Eastern Partnership for strengthening the relations with the European Union, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle said in a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca.
The two officials had a discussion on the sidelines of the meeting of the European Action Group for Moldova, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Foreign Ministry. The Commissioner urged the Moldovan authorities to maintain the high level of commitment as Moldova has the necessary potential to benefit from the ‘more for more’ principle.
The justice reform, combating of corruption and improvement of the investment climate are the areas where Moldovan can make more progress, and the European Union will be near to support these processes, said Štefan Füle. He approved of the strengthening of sector cooperation with Moldova in air transport, energy security and science. The Commissioner reiterated that the opening of the talks on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area until the end of this year, as the Warsaw Summit Declaration provides, remains a priority for the European Commission.
Iurie Leanca also met with John Dalli, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy, with whom he discussed the cooperation between Moldova and the EU in reaching the European sanitary and phytosanitary standards. The officials agreed that experts of the European Commission will help the Moldovan authorities to finish and approve the plan for adjusting the sanitary and phytosanitary legislation by the end of November. This would contribute to hastening the negotiations on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.
In the same connection, John Dalli welcomed the approval by the Government of Moldova of the national food security strategy. He promised to pay a working visit to Moldova in the near future.
