Moldova, priority beneficiary of Romania’s international development cooperation plan

The Republic of Moldova remains the priority beneficiary of Romania’s policy of international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance at bilateral level. The Romanian Government considered an information note that includes the list of projects benefiting from financing through the budget allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IPN reports.

The annual plan for international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance for 2024 benefits from a budget allocation of 4.81 million lei. The included activities and projects target geographical areas of priority interest for Romania in terms of the Official Development Assistance, such as the extended Black Sea region and the Western Balkans, respectively, Africa and the Middle East. “The Republic of Moldova will remain the priority beneficiary of Romania’s policy of international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance at bilateral level,” reads a press release of the Government in Bucharest.

According to the Romanian executive, the activities aim to develop the capacities of the partner state in such areas as education, digitalization, health, emergency situations, cybersecurity, diplomacy, justice and European affairs.

The projects dedicated to the Republic of Moldova benefit from 1.9 million lei financing, which is about 40% of the total amount allocated to the plan.

“The document is part of the efforts to streamline the official development assistance provided by our country and the correlation with the standards of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, with an impact also on the process of our country’s accession to the organization,” it is said in the press release.
