Moldova ranked 89th by FIFA
The Moldovan national football team slipped five spots to 89th in the updated FIFA Rankings published ahead of the World Cup in South Africa, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Gabi Balint's squad totaled 378 points and placed 89th, behind Malawi, Guinea and Angola, and ahead Gambia and Uzbekistan. The Tricolors' position could rebound if they win the upcoming friendlies with Azerbaijan and the UAE to be played as part of a training session in Austria.
Of Moldova's 2010 Euro Cup rivals, the Netherlands have the best FIFA ranking placing 4th, followed by Sweden on 37th, Finland on 52nd, Hungary on 57th. Minnows San Marino are traditionally placed at the bottom of the rankings on 202nd.
Traditional leaders are Brazil, followed by Spain and Portugal. Reigning world champions Italy are placed fifth.
