Moldova signs four cooperation agreements with Turkmenistan

Moldova has signed four cooperation agreements with Turkmenistan: a memorandum of understanding between the chambers of trade and industry of the two states, a plan of consultations of the foreign ministries, an agreement of cooperation in culture, and a convention on double taxation and combating of tax evasion between the governments, IPN reports.

In a meeting, President Nicolae Timofti and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov discussed possibilities of strengthening the relations between the two states in the energy and economic sectors and in education. They agreed to constitute an intergovernmental commission on commercial-economic cooperation. There will be organized the Days of Turkmen Culture in Moldova and the Days of Moldovan Culture in Turkmenistan in 2014-2015. Nicolae Timofti underlined that the bilateral relations between the two states have intensified, while the Turkmen official’s visit lays the basis for even better cooperation in the future.

Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov said his visit to Moldova is a historical one for both of the states as it is the first visit of Turkmen officials to Moldova. He underlined that the cooperation between the two states in international security, fight against terrorism, trafficking in human beings and drugs will be strengthened and that special attention will be paid to the creation of an economic-commercial corridor on Moldova’s territory, which will make a connection between Asia and the European Union.

The President of Turkmenistan is paying an official visit to Moldova on July 24-25. The program of his visit includes meetings with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Speaker Igor Corman.
