Israel will intensify the economic cooperation with Moldova through definite projects. Such a conclusion was reached in the discussions held by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It is a symbolic visit, the first paid by a foreign minister of Israel, even if we established diplomatic relations with this state in 1992. We approve of Israel’s readiness to provide support to Moldova in promoting democratic reforms, making economic progress and meeting the European standards. We thank the Israeli authorities for the donation of medications for treating oncological diseases,” Iurie Leanca said in a news conference on September 2.
He announced that Israel will offer humanitarian aid consisting of medications to the value of about US$350,000 to national hospitals and assistance in implementing a trilateral project in Moldova, with the participation of Israel and Romania. There will be created and equipped a laboratory for certifying agricultural products according to European standards.
Iurie Leanca stressed the importance of removing the taxes on Israeli visas for Moldovans, saying this is only an intermediary step as the final objective is to create a visa-free regime between Moldova and Israel.
The Israeli minister Avigdor Liberman, who is native of Moldova, said he returned to the country with a special feeling and feels at home here and is thus motivated to support Moldova in its aspirations. “Our cooperation includes a wide range of areas. We discuss political issues, investment projects and cooperate within different international organizations. This positive dynamics result in important projects, including consular concessions, the trilateral project in agriculture and others,” he told the same news conference.
The two ministers said they also discussed the possibility of granting labor quotas for Moldovans. The topic is to be developed in the meeting of the Moldovan-Israeli governmental commission that is expected to take place at the end of this year or the start of next year.
While in Moldova, Avigdor Liberman had meetings with Acting President Marian Lupu and Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
Avigdor Liberman was born in Chisinau. He was awarded the Order of Honor by ex-President Vladimir Voronin in gratitude for his contribution to developing the friendship and cooperation relations between Moldova and Israel.
