Moldovans apply to run in parliamentary elections in Romania

Two citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who also have Romanian nationality, journalist Doru Dendiu and unionist leader Constantin Codreanu, applied to be admitted to the internal competition announced by the People’s Movement Party (PMP), headed by ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu, at the beginning of last month for running in the Romanian parliamentary elections.

In a news conference at IPN, Constantin Codreanu and Doru Dendiu called on all the Moldovans with Romanian passports or identity cards to sign in their favor. This can be done at the tents put up in Chisinau and at the Office of MP Eugen Tomac.

Constantin Codreanu said that parliamentary elections will be held in Romania on December 11. On this occasion, an internal competition was launched by the People’s Movement Party led by Traian Basescu. On September 7, the PMP called on all the Romanian citizens from the diaspora and from the Republic of Moldova to enter the party’s competition so as to be able to apply for the six seats of MP, more exactly, four seats on the Chamber of Deputies and two seats on the Senate. Constantin Codreanu will run for a seat on the Chamber of Deputies, while Doru Dendiu for a seat on the Senate.

Constantin Codreanu noted that he decided to become involved in politics because he is convinced that those who form part of the newer generation, which was not affected by the Soviet mentality, should take a step towards politics. “No one can challenge the fact that the Republic of Moldova is a failed state that exists based only on external financing. The Republic of Moldova is not able to maintain itself and the reunion with Romania is the only solution. I want to profit from what the status of an MP offers, from what a rostrum offered by this status means and I want to speak as the representative of the Romanian state about the importance of the unionist movement and of the reunion,” he stated.

Constantin Codreanu also said he will demand that the Government of Romania should include a specialized body for relations with Moldova and that a ministry should be set up as the Romanians from Moldova are not the diaspora, but the Romanian administration does not realize this.

Doru Dendiu said that he does not run for himself, but for the Romanians from Bessarabia and for the Romanians who were forced to leave Bessarabia. He decided to run because the continuity of the projects initiated by Traian Basescu and Eugen Tomac in Moldova must be ensured. “Bessarabia is depopulated and not the occupants, but the Romanians leave. We must do something. This is the main reason for which I decided to run. I cannot look passively at the humiliation to which we are subject,” he stated.

He noted that the connection of the communities of Romanians and Bessarabians from abroad is a component of the project he wants to develop.

A meeting to validate the candidates will be held in Bucharest on October 10. This is an internal exercise to set the order of the PMP candidates on the list.

All those who want to sign in favor of Constantin Codreanu and Doru Dendiu can do it at the tends pitched in front of the Chisinau Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”, at Moldova’s Post Office and the Office of MP Eugen Tomac.

In the elections to choose members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Parliament of Romania that will take place this December, the Romanians with the domicile or residence abroad will be able to vote by mail or at one of the polling places that will be established abroad.
