Moldovans live an average of 72 years

Last year, the average life expectancy in the Republic of Moldova was 71.9 years, an increase of 0.5 years compared to 2022, IPN reports.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the increase in life expectancy in 2023 was largely due to the reduction in the overall mortality rate for both men and women. At the same time, there is a major gender disparity in terms of life expectancy at birth, with women living, on average, by 8.9 years longer than men.

Life expectancy at birth by sexes in 2023 was 67.5 years for men and 76.4 years for women – up by 0.4 years for men and 0.7 years for women, respectively, compared to the previous year.
