Monument Inspection and Restoration Agency sounds alarm

The Monument Inspection and Restoration Agency is launching a campaign to collect funds to restore a number of monuments of national importance that deserve being included in the international tourist circuit, Info Prim Neo reports. “80% of the existing monuments are in a deplorable condition. Many of them have been reconstructed without authorization and their integrity and authenticity was affected,” said the Agency’s head Ion Stefanita. After inspecting 1,460 monuments included in Moldova’s Register of Monuments that are protected by the state, it was established that 85% of the 36 lordly mansions examined are in ruins or on the verge of disappearance. The Monument Inspection and Restoration Agency, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the local public authorities, plans to draw up a list of monuments that are badly in need of repair. The money collected during the campaign will be used to restore the damaged monuments.
