More people have confidence in Iurie Leanca, POB poll

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca is trusted by 49% of the people who were surveyed within the Public Opinion Barometer (POB) that was presented on April 24. He is followed by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who is trusted by 40% of the respondents. 34% of those polled have confidence in the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, a lower percentage compared with last year.

Arcadie Barbarosie, executive director of the Public Policy Institute, said the confidence in Iurie Leanca increased owing to the peace inside the ruling coalition, the planned signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and to the liberalization of the visa regime.

The poll shows that the trust in the main state institutions increased significantly. The Government is trusted by 28% of the respondents, up 12%. Each third respondent approves of the work done by the executive. 22% of those surveyed trust Parliament, up 8%, while 25% trust the head of state, up 9%.

The survey was carried out by the Center for Sociological, Politological and Psychological Analyses and Investigations (CIVIS) and administered by the Public Policy Institute between March 28 and April 13. It covered a sample of 1,115 people from 76 settlements. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
