MPs ask for report from interior minister and prosecutor general

The commission on national security, defense and public order requested holding a closed-door sitting of Parliament where the minister of the interior and the prosecutor general should report on the investigation of the February 3 incident, when lawmakers were prevented from attending the commission’s meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If you don’t take steps to deal with an unordinary case, when certain persons hindered the MPs from doing their job, it’s no wonder that the ordinary people have to knock at different doors for such long periods of time,” said Liberal-Democratic MP Ion Butmalai, addressing the minister of the interior and the prosecutor general. Unaffiliated lawmaker Mihai Godea said that such an attitude of the law enforcement bodies is inadmissible. “You couldn’t identify the persons who passed before video cameras and who often take part in protests. How can you then discover serious crimes committed in the country?” he asked, suggesting that somebody should be dismissed if Parliament is not satisfied with the report that will be rendered. Initially, the MPs asked that the report should be submitted to the commission on national security, defense and public within two weeks. But then it was agreed to propose questioning the minister of the interior and the prosecutor general in Parliament and holding accountable those who had a disrespectful attitude towards the lawmakers.
