MPs come together for new sitting after one-day pause

After taking a break of one day, the lawmakers will hold a new sitting today, May 3. The break was asked by the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin, who argued that they need to hold consultations to identify a candidate for Speaker. All the agenda items of the May 2 sitting were transferred for today, IPN reports.

Analysts have different opinions about the situation in Parliament. Some suspect hidden agreements between the PCRM and PLDM, while others consider that the PCRM intends to form a coalition with the PDM.

Today the MPs are expected to discuss the reports of the two special commissions set up last week, one for examining the impact of the law on the modification of the electoral system and the other one for studying the circumstances in which Corneliu Gurin was appointed as prosecutor general. In both of the cases, the commissions propose abrogating the passed bills.

The commission that assessed the impact of the amendments to the Election Code said the introduction of the joint electoral system discriminates against the Transnistrians and the Moldovans living abroad, who will be able to vote only within national constituencies. The second commission established that the prosecutor was elected with violations.
