The MPs have contradictory opinions about the candidate for the post of governor of the National Bank of Moldova. But most of these said they will make public their position only after Sergiu Cioclea comes to Parliament and answers their questions, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu considers that Moldova has never had a better candidate for this post. “We hope that Parliament will unanimously vote this candidate as well as the Supervision Board, which is a new body of the central bank, so that they start to deal with the serious problems faced in the financial-banking sector,” he stated.
Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Giletski said that in the morning of March 3 the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group had a meeting to discuss the candidate for governor. The MPs decided to invite Sergiu Cioclea to a discussion and will then take a decision. “My first impression is a good one. I also looked through his CV and have no objections to this candidate so far. It seems to me that the current candidate is much better,” stated the lawmaker.
According to Liberal MP Lilian Carp, several of the candidates were professionals with skills in the area. “Sergiu Ciolea is a suitable candidate for this post,” he stated, without specifying if the Liberals will vote for him.
Communist lawmaker Oleg Reidman said that he has a number of questions to the candidate. “I doubt the recommendations that come from one source. I doubt his experience in the area of monetary policies. Judging by his CV, he has experience mainly in consultancy in the banking sector,” he stated.
The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca noted that he was impressed by the candidate’s CV. He said he will take a decision whether to vote for him or not depending on the answers to the questions and the solutions he will propose for improving the situation in the banking system.
In the morning of March 3, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu announced that Sergiu Cioclea will be proposed for the post of governor of the National Bank of Moldova. After this announcement, the Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon said the Socialists MPs will not vote for the candidate for National Bank governor. According to him, even if Sergiu Cioclea is a professional, he does not have chances to improve the situation now that the state is captured and any candidate who will be named to an executive post by the current Parliament will discredit himself from the start.
