Negotiations on forming alliance in CMC may start Monday

The percentage polled by the three parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) – the PL, PDM, and PLDM - in the local elections in Chisinau is over 50% and an alliance can be thus formed in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), Dorin Chirtoaca said on Pro TV channel after the results of the exit poll had been announced, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”In 2007 – 2009, the PL and PLDM went shoulder to shoulder. In 2009, the PL earned 24% of the vote, while the PLDM - 19%. In 2010, the situation changed. With the votes polled now, an alliance may be created in the CMC,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He considers that such an alliance would ensure the implementation of the reforms expected by the people. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the leaders of the three parties should meet on June 6 and delegate representatives to negotiate the formation of the municipal alliance. Invited to the same program, Vasile Botnar, director of Radio Free Europe Office in Moldova, said the voters did not make a difference between the mayor and the team of councilors. “Few people voted for Dorin Chirtoaca as mayor and the PLDM’s team for the CMC. These things should have been projected when deciding if the candidate was to be common or not,” said Vasile Botnaru. He also said that he admires Dorin Chirtoaca’s optimism about the formation of the alliance as the AEI was created with difficulty and everyone wanted the number of posts to be proportional to the votes polled. According to the final exit poll results, the Communist Party earned 39.9% of the vote, the Liberal Party – 38.0%, the Liberal Democratic Party -15.2%, while the Democratic Party – 3.0%.
