New lections must take place before January 15, PLDM
The new elections must be held before January 15, 2012, considers the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We will analyze the created situation. I think Wednesday we will convene the AEI Council, which will be followed by a meeting of the alliance. We will examine the state of affairs and will find the best solution. We focus on the solutions needed to elect the head of state in the new elections. We will decide the possible future scenarios in the alliance and the parliamentary groups. The PLDM treats this process with due seriousness,” the MP told the press.
As to the December 16 elections and the statements made by the only presidential candidate, Valeriu Strelet reiterated that the PLDM obeyed the decisions taken inside the faction and the alliance. “All our 31 MPs voted for the AEI’s candidate Marian Lupu. We regret it that Mister Lupu made a series of statements and expressed suspicion about our faction and colleagues. They are groundless and imprudent and thus my colleagues expect apologies,” he stated.
Liberal-Democratic lawmakers Alexandru Cimbrinciuc and Ion Butmalai Monday said they will not vote for the alliance’s candidate Marian Lupu in the next presidential elections. They demanded that Marian Lupu apologize publicly for implying on a number of TV channels that one of the invalid ballots cast in the recent elections belonged to one of them.
In the December 16 elections, Marian Lupu polled 58 votes and was three votes short of being elected. The members of the group of Socialists voted against, while one ballot was declared invalid. The Communist lawmakers did not take part in the voting.
The new elections must be called within 30 days.
