Nicolae Timofti offers a week for forming parliamentary majority

President Nicolae Timofti gave the MPs a week to create a parliamentary majority and the consultations will be resumed afterward. According to the presidential press service, in the consultations held on January 5 the head of state asked the parliamentary parties to take into account the majority pro-European option of the people when forming a new parliamentary coalition, IPN reports.

In the consultations, the representatives of the parliamentary parties suggested no candidate for premiership. They asked the head of state to give them time for forming a political coalition and agreeing a candidate for this post.

President Timofti asked that the potential candidates for Prime Minister should meet the integrity criteria and should be free from suspicions about involvement in acts of corruption.

The discussions involved the leaders of the PLDM, PDM and PL and representatives of the two groups of unaffiliated MPs, of the European People’s Party and the Social-Democratic Platform. The PCRM and PSRM were also invited to consultations. The President’s spokesman Vlad Turcanu has told IPN that the Socialists rejected the invitation, while the Communists gave an evasive answer.
