Nicolae Timofti regrets that Igor Dodon does not understand essence of modernization processes
President Nicolae Timofti regrets MP Igor Dodon’s accusations that he protects the judges by suggesting increasing their salaries and considers that they are groundless, the head of state’s spokesman Vlad Turcanu said in a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nicolae Timofti believes that by his assertions, Igor Dodon showed that he does not understand the essence of the processes aimed at modernizing Moldova, including the importance of reforming the legal system, and thus confirms that he is an opponent of the European integration course that was set as the national development goal.
The head of state said the process of establishing correct justice includes a series of legislative, procedural and administrative measures that will ultimately put the legal system on a solid basis again. This basis will allow judges to work exclusively in favor of the law and the people. The gradual rise in judges’ salaries is only one of the measures taken to achieve this objective. Nicolae Timofti expressed his conviction that the pay raises planned for the next two years will cover other categories of people as well.
The Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon Thursday accused Nicolae Timofti of promoting protectionism policies in relation to his former colleagues. He said that it is hypocrisy on the part of Nicolae Timofti to say that corruption in the legal system will be reduced if judges’ pays are increased.
The legislative initiative criticized by Dodon provides for the increase in salaries up to 10,000 lei.
