Veterans of the 1992 war for Moldova’s independence joined the Democratic Party (PDM) for the November 30 parliamentary elections. The decision was made public in the meeting of the Council of the National Union of Independence War Veterans that was held in Chisinau on November 10, IPN reports.
The Union’s head and moderator of the forum Eduard Maican underlined the necessity of stability and peace in the country, especially in the context of the crisis experienced by Ukraine, but also referred to the extremist forces from Moldova that want to enter Parliament. “Moldova is again in front of a choice and the geopolitical situation makes us choose between stability and welfare or between conflict and separation. “We, the independence war veterans know the best what the price of peace is and why is it important for our society to live in peace. We are firmly convinced that the extremists and those who want to impose foreign views on us must not come to power,” he stated, adding they consider that the PDM is the party that unites society, not divides it and thus can represent all its components.
According to Eduard Maican, the veterans decided not to stand aside because they see that some of the political forces act against the national interests and threaten to destabilize the situation in the country. “The price of indifference may be too high. That’s why we decided not only to make ourselves heard, but also to support the only party that can guarantee stability on Moldova’s territory while in power. The PDM is the only party that can ensure stability and that fully meets our expectations,” he explained.
The deputy chairman of the PDM Igor Corman thanked the veterans for their acts during the 1992 war and for the present involvement. “You didn’t stand aside in 1991 – 1992 and I thank you for the sacrifice you made then. You gave then an example and were patriots, showing that you care about the country’s destiny. I’m glad that today you are also not indifferent and support the Democratic Party. I assure you that you made the correct choice as we, those from the PDM, want peace and stability in Moldova, as you. Only by ensuring peace in the country can we grow the economy and come closer to the living standards we all want for our families and children,” he stated.
The participants in the forum made a call to the other veterans to support and vote the PDM in the November 30 legislative elections. They decided to create the Movement of Democratic Veterans that will bring together representatives of veterans from all the country’s districts and will become actively involved in the election campaign of the PDM.
